Additionally, the consumer’s credit rating cannot be negatively affected by the disputed amount during the investigation.

The issuer must provide written notices explaining the consumer’s rights in case of billing errors, including the contact information for reporting disputes.
  5. Resolution and Recourse: Once the investigation is complete, the credit card issuer must provide the consumer with a written explanation of the resolution. If an error occurred, the issuer must correct it and remove any related finance charges. If the dispute remains unresolved, the consumer may have recourse through legal channels.
